What’s Happening – October 24-30

Autumn in Florida does not fit the tropes of pumpkin spice, soft sweaters,  and harvesting for winter, but it has its wonderfulness just the same. At the Elsie Quirk Library, while we are not raking leaves, we are gathering a bountiful array of colorful picture books for children to revel in; while we are not drying apples and preserving squash, we are preparing for a nourishing winter with a cornucopia of cookbooks and culinary adventures; and while we are not stacking wood, we are stockpiling cozy mysteries and heartwarming stories of love to carry us through to spring.

We recognize, though, that we are also in a season of difficulty, uncertainty, and confusion. The Elsie Quirk Library is here to help you. If you are confused by the overabundance of conflicting information, and want to do your own research but don’t know how, the library is a great place to start. Instead of a slew of internet search results that may or may not be credible, ask about accessing information from curated sources through our databases. Pick up one of our Confused by the News packets, or our SMART research method flyer for tips on finding reliable sources of information. And, of course, ask at the reference desk for any help you need. At the library, we will never tell you what to think, but we will enthusiastically help you find and assess wide ranging sources so that you can draw independent, well-informed conclusions.
