Vaccine, Taxes and Steampunk?

Happy New Year!

Elsie Quirk has been getting a lot of questions about the COVID-19 vaccine.  As of January 5, vaccinations are only available for front-line medical workers and people 65 and over.  Vaccinations are by appointment only and must be made online.  You can get alerts for upcoming appointment opportunities by texting SRQCOVID19 to 888777 in Sarasota County, or at coadfl.org in Charlotte County.  Appointments fill up quickly.

The library is also being asked about how tax assistance will work this year.  Our partnership with AARP for tax preparation will continue this year, and we working with them to make this a no-contact service.  Please call the voice message line for AARP’s Elsie Quirk Tax-Aide volunteers at (941) 281-5231 for updates as to when this service will begin.  The library has requested federal tax forms from the IRS which have not yet shipped.  Shipping is estimated to be 10 days from the date of shipment.  Forms are available online at IRS.gov and can be printed on an individual basis at the library.

The library is alive with STEAMPUNK this month!  What is Steampunk?  Steampunk is a genre of science fiction that combines futuristic technology with 19th century steam powered machines.  At the library we infuse it with STEAM – Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math in our own quirky way.

The new year means looking forward to Lemon Bay Fest.  This year the event is going virtual with lemony twists to go along with your longtime favorites.  As part of the programming presented at Lemon Bay Fest this year, our Adult Services librarian, Marcus, is looking for people who are willing to talk about their favorite hobbies, crafts, or occupations in Englewood.  From fishing to hogging, gardening to quilting, we’d like your story to be a part of our collection.  If you are willing to share your story, please call Marcus at (941) 861-1207 or email him at mgilfert@scgov.net.
