The beginning of November signals the start of our seasonal book discussion groups here at Elsie Quirk Library. The Friends of Elsie Quirk Library sponsor three separate discussion groups that meet on Thursday mornings from November to April. You’re sure to find a group that fits your liking.
The Great Books Discussion group meets the first Thursday of each month at 10 a.m. and is moderated by George Mahoney. This fall he will be leading discussions on selections found in the Great Books Foundation’s “Great Conversations 2” and then will move on to “Great Conversations 4”.
The Short Story Group meets the second Thursday of each month at 10 a.m. and is also moderated by George Mahoney. This group will be reading and discussing short stories from the book “The Best American Short Stories of the Century”, the expanded edition, edited by John Updike.
The Reading Discussion Group is moderated by Friends of the Library board member, Pat Burkey and volunteer, Erin Krasnove. This group meets the third Thursday of each month at 10 a.m. The Reading Discussion Group will be reading and discussing a variety of different genres from novels to biographies and some non-fiction this season.
Please visit the library for a listing of all the titles that will be discussed or you can find it online at friendsofelsiequirk.org. In-house use copies of the “Great Conversations” and “The Best American Short Stories of the Century” books are available at the Reference desk in the library.
New members are always welcome to attend and encouraged to join in on the discussion. Joining a book discussion is also a great way to meet new friends!
