We’re pleased to present Lemon Bay Fest in person once again. The 20th annual “History with Zest” celebration will take place February 5 – 12. Events will take place at both Elsie Quirk and Englewood Charlotte libraries, as well as other locations around Englewood. Check this year’s website for details.
Author Todd Cameron will kick off this year’s events with a reading from and discussion of his book, “Snowblind”. Mr. Cameron is offering a free digital copy of his new novella, “Midnight Pass” to attendees and will be taking questions from the audience after his reading. The event is scheduled to take place in the Friends of Elsie Quirk Library’s Golden Garden behind the library, weather permitting. The program begins at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 5.
The Friends of Elsie Quirk Library will be sponsoring several of the events at this year’s Fest including two live music events. On Saturday, February 5, at 1 p.m., Matthew Sabatella and the Rambling String Band will present A Celebration of America’s Music, live music with a video presentation that showcases the evolution of American music throughout the years. Vermont’s Easy Street will again appear at Elsie Quirk Library with their presentation of Bluegrass, Old-time, Country, Cajun, and Zydeco played on the fiddle, mandolin, guitar not to mention plenty of singing! Their American Roots Roadshow will be on Monday, February 7, at 2 p.m. at the Elsie Quirk Library.
Other events include Don Bayley leading a discussion of his book “Monty’s Stories” where participants can share their favorite Monty story or one of their own about our town. The discussion will take place on Tuesday, February 8, at 11 a.m., at Elsie Quirk Library. “Monty’s Stories” is available for checkout at the library, or for purchase through the Englewood Museum. Of course we’ll be showing the traditional Lemon Bay Fest movies, “Patrick Smith’s Florida: A Sense of Place” will be shown on Monday, February 7, at 5 p.m. “Cracker: The Last Cowboys of Florida” will be shown on Wednesday, February 9, at 5 p.m. Both will take place in the Elsie Quirk Meeting Room. Show up before each movie at 4:30 for a special round of trivia with Kahoot! Kahoot! is a trivia game played through your cell phone, and questions will be different for each game.
We will also be holding a photo scavenger hunt throughout the week. A prize will be presented to one lucky participant, and the photo voted best by the community will win a prize for the photographer as well. You can pick up a copy of it at either Elsie Quirk or Englewood Charlotte library, or download a digital copy.
This is just a small slice of events at this year’s Lemon Bay Fest, so please check brochures showing this year’s offerings, available at both library locations as well as being downloadable.
Space is limited for events and will be provided on a first come, first served basis. Social distancing is requested for the comfort of all attending.
