Learning Days Headline Children’s Events in May

Remake-Learning-Days

Remake Learning Days is a partnership with organizations across Florida to emphasize that learning happens everywhere. It certainly happens at Elsie Quirk Library. Visit the library the first week of May to see the Youth Voices Exhibit. Teens and tweens answered the question, “If you could tell your community one thing about your generation, what would it be?” through artwork.

As part of Remake Learning Days, Van Wezel teaching artist Katelyn will be presenting Let’s Play Charades!, a program for all ages on expressing creativity through movement. The program will take place on Saturday, May 7, from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

Forty Carrots, Partners in Play ends their spring season on Monday, May 9, with sessions starting at 10:15 and noon. This uninterrupted playtime allows parents to network with other parents and receive learning techniques from educators. Forty Carrots is for children ages 0-5 and their families, and will return in the summer.

Family Storytime will continue each Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. Designed for ages 0-5, Family Storytime includes stories, music, rhymes, and other early literacy activities.

The ever popular Read with the Dogs program also continues each 2nd Monday of the month. Suncoast Humane Society pet therapy dogs are at the library to listen to kids read. Read with the Dogs runs from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m., May 9, and is for ages 3 and up.

Older children will enjoy Drop-in Board Game Nights afterschool every Wednesday from 2 – 6 p.m. Join your friends or meet new ones at the library. The library will supply the games or share a favorite game you bring. Games are available for all ages and skill levels.

The library will be closed in observance of Memorial Day on Monday, May 30.

Oceans of Possibilities are coming to the library this summer. Watch for the big kickoff coming in June.
