Visit Elsie Quirk Library this week for a taste of Japanese culture. This week we have two very special events that will allow children, teens and adults the opportunity to experience Japan without going very far. The Artists in the Libraries series, returns this Tuesday at 10:30 am with an exciting program for children ages 3 to 9. Join the magical adventures of stories from all over the world told in Kamishibai style. This style of paper theatre incorporates magic tricks and various paper art forms including Origami and pop-up arts. After the stories are performed, children will be able to participate in an Origami workshop. Registration is required and limited to 30 participants.
Teens and adults are invited to join in the fun on Friday, July 29 at 1 pm. Paul Stonebridge will be presenting this program on the history and culture of Japan, both old and new. Sample some authentic Japanese food while learning about Manga, Anime, and cosplayers in Japan. Registration is required. These programs are made possible through the generosity of the Friends of Elsie Quirk Library, Arts and Culture Alliance of Sarasota County, Library Foundation for Sarasota County and the Association of Florida Teaching Artists. Please visit www.scgov.net/library for the full Artists in the Libraries schedule.
