The Sarasota County Library’s Summer Reading Program for 2016 highlights exercising both your body and mind to live a balanced, healthy lifestyle. Join us this summer for several opportunities to learn more on a variety of topics relating to balanced living as Sarasota County Libraries partners with the UF/IFAS Extension Family Nutrition Program, Sarasota Food and Nutrition Services, and the Sheriff’s Activities League.
A special series for middle school students ages 11 through 14, are designed to engage and educate kids on the subject of nutrition and fitness. The first session, My Plate: Enjoy Your Food!, will take place this Wednesday at Elsie Quirk Library at 10:30 am. Teens and tweens will be educated on practicing good eating habits in a fun atmosphere. Come learn how to fill your plate with a variety of healthy choices from each of the five food groups. Students will get to taste-test healthy snacks. Other sessions this summer will include staying hydrated, sports nutrition, and fitness.
A separate series of similar sessions for younger children ages 3 through 8 will also be available. The Y.U.M. (Youth Understanding my Plate) Storytimes will begin this Thursday at 10:30 am. Children will learn and be encouraged to eat a healthy diet through stories, music and other interactive activities. No registration necessary for these programs.
